As the UK’s packaging landscape continues to evolve, FACER is emerging as one of its most exciting challengers. Based in Leeds and proudly Northern in both roots and outlook, the folding carton manufacturer is gearing up to make a bold statement at the inaugural UKPackaging Expo this September at Manchester Central. Their message? Fast, fearless, and fundamentally different packaging solutions that are as commercially effective as they are sustainable.
Rooted in the North, ready to connect
For FACER, exhibiting at this first-of-its-kind Northern show was a natural choice. “It was a no-brainer to join the UKPackaging Expo,” says FACER Managing Director, Luke Wilson. “As a Northern manufacturer, it’s a huge opportunity to connect with Northern-based brands who are facing challenges in their packaging supply chains and who are ready to raise the bar when it comes to engaging consumers.”
At the heart of FACER’s ethos is a drive to create packaging that does more than just hold a product. They want to solve problems, spark conversations, and support the kind of branding that stands out on-shelf and online. The team is heading to Manchester with a clear goal: to have meaningful discussions with both emerging and established brands, to explore real-world challenges, and to see where FACER’s unique approach might offer a quicker, longer-term solution.
A UK first: plastic-free blister innovation
One such solution, and a show-stopping centrepiece at their stand, is the FACER Plastic-Free Blister Pack. This breakthrough design is the UK’s first commercially available paper-based blister alternative. Entirely plastic-free and fully recyclable, the heat-sealable pack is compatible with existing blister packing machinery, offering brands an easy switch from conventional formats. One brand’s adoption of the pack has already helped them grow UK market share to 38%, a testament to the commercial power of eco-innovation when it’s done right.
FACER’s show line-up doesn’t stop there. They’ll also be showcasing a range of creative, high-impact packaging structures that push the boundaries of what paperboard can do. Their focus is on progressive brands who want more than just a box, they want a brand experience, delivered sustainably and at speed.
While many carton manufacturers are catching up on sustainability, FACER has long made it their foundation. All of their packaging is mono-material, fully recyclable, and can be FSC Certified and World Land Trust Carbon Balanced. They’re also experimenting with next-gen materials – from seaweed and hemp to recycled coffee cups – that add meaning and story to the packaging itself.
“We believe the next big shift in packaging will be using materials that are sustainable and help tell a brand’s story in a unique way,” says Luke.
Responding to shifting trends
Looking ahead, FACER sees two major forces shaping the industry: sustainability and storytelling. As Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) begins to reshape packaging priorities, brands will need more than just recyclable materials, they’ll need to embed meaning, personality, and narrative into every pack. FACER’s team is already working with clients to bring hyper-tailored structural designs and creative finishes to life, giving marketers a new, tangible platform for their brand message.
There’s also excitement around the role of technology. While mass-market adoption is still on the horizon, FACER sees real potential in digital packaging integrations, like QR codes that launch immersive AR or VR experiences, to deepen consumer engagement in novel ways.
At UKPackaging Expo, FACER wants to offer more than just ideas. They want to create energy. Their stand is designed to inspire and refreshingly no-nonsense.
“We want visitors to walk away feeling empowered to package different,” adds Luke Wilson. “To see what’s possible when speed, sustainability, and creativity come together.”
