Reaseheath launches funding package to supercharge careers in Horticulture and Food Science

Reaseheath College is giving students a head start in two of the UK’s most important sectors – horticulture and food science – with the launch of a groundbreaking T Level Incentive Scheme.

Starting in September 2025, students enrolling at the Nantwich-based college on these high-priority T Levels will receive a performance-based bursary of up to £150 per term. That’s up to £450 per year, rewarding students for excellent attendance, meeting academic targets, and demonstrating commitment to their studies.

But that’s just the beginning. In addition to the bursary, learners will benefit from a wide range of free resources and career-boosting support. This includes a laptop loan scheme, worth £500, providing students with the essential technology they need for the duration of their course.

Students will also receive essential learning resources – including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as gloves, safety boots, and high-visibility clothing (where applicable), lab coats, and scientific calculators for those on the Food Science pathway. The college will cover all costs, which can add up to an estimated £80 per student.

Students will have access to exclusive industry masterclasses, employer-led projects, and mentorship from professionals in the sector. With guaranteed interviews for apprenticeship opportunities and progression routes to higher education at University Centre Reaseheath this scheme offers unmatched support at every stage of a student’s journey.

Reaseheath’s T Level in Food Science equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the dynamic food industry. Over two years, students will explore scientific methods, experimental techniques, and key concepts such as genetics, microbiology, and immunology. Developed with employers, this course prepares graduates for a rewarding career in food science.

The T Level in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscaping combines classroom learning with hands-on experience, making it perfect for those passionate about sustainable land use, landscaping, and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Whether aiming for a career in plant science, environmental management, or landscape design, this course will set students up for success in the growing horticulture industry.

“This is more than just an incentive – it’s about creating the next generation of highly-skilled professionals in these vital industries,” explains Paul Spearritt, Vice-Principal – Curriculum and Quality.

“We’re offering students everything they need to succeed – financial support, equipment, learning resources, and career opportunities.”

The UK faces significant skills shortages in both horticulture and food science – sectors that are central to sustainability, food security, and climate action. Reaseheath College is committed to tackling these challenges by attracting and nurturing the next generation of horticulturists, food scientists, and sustainability leaders.

T Levels are advanced technical qualifications designed with employers to provide students with both the academic knowledge and practical industry experience they need to thrive. Reaseheath is a long-time advocate for T Levels and continues to build its offer around the skills needed in the industries of tomorrow.

Reaseheath is now calling on Year 10 and 11 students with a passion for the environment, food innovation, or plant science to explore these exciting opportunities and take the first step toward a fulfilling career.

“These are not just jobs – these are careers that make a real difference to the world,” added Paul. “If you’re ready to take the next step and want a course that gives you everything you need to succeed, we’ll be with you every step of the way.”

The T Level Incentive Scheme includes:

  • Up to £150 per term – based on attendance, engagement, and progress (up to £450 per year)
  • Free college laptop for the duration of your course (worth up to £500)
Paid-for PPE (including gloves, safety boots, high-visibility clothing where applicable)
  • Lab coats & scientific calculators provided for Food Science students
  • Access to industry mentors and employer-led projects
  • Progression opportunities to university-level study at University Centre Reaseheath
