Exclusive new led tube lamp retrofit solution launched, enabling food and drink manufacturers to upgrade insect light traps

Product News

Food and drink manufacturers can now upgrade their insect light traps (ILTs) and lower running costs following the launch of the Opti-Catch Retrofit 5W LED.

The solution has been developed by Pelsis Group, a global leader in pest control innovation, has partnered with leading manufacturer of shatterproof lamps Fotolec Technologies.

It comes with a three-year warranty and offers a 66 per cent reduction in running costs compared to traditional fluorescent lamps while lowering electronic waste production.

It has been designed with plug-and-play installation alongside diffusion technology to enhance UV dispersion. This allows for increased fly-catching performance which matches fluorescent tubes in a more energy efficient way to meet regulations.

The tube has four visible LED chips to provide a clear signal to users it is in operation and is fitted with GlassGuard® shatterproof coating to ensure durability and reduce the risk of glass contamination in food and drink manufacturing settings.

The Opti-Catch Retrofit 5W LED was developed in partnership with the Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS). This is a series of global standards aimed at building confidence in the supply chain by reinforcing safety and quality.

Commenting on the launch, Stuart Morgan, group portfolio lead for insect light traps at Pelsis, said:

“The move to LED technology in ILTs is quickly becoming the industry standard. LEDs offer clear advantages over fluorescents, including greater energy efficiency, lower electricity costs and improved sustainability without compromising fly-catching performance.

“Our new Opti-Catch Retrofit 5W LED allows food and drink manufacturers to upgrade existing fluorescent units to access the benefits of LEDs without the need for electricians. It has also demonstrated like-for-like fly catching performance when compared to fluorescent tubes.

“Working in partnership with the BRCGS means it is the only retrofit LED tube to meet the latest food safety standards. Its shatterproof design ensures maximum safety in sensitive environments where glass contamination must be avoided, such as food production facilities.

“To further reinforce its ESG credentials, we’ve prioritised durability to provide a warranty-backed three-year lifespan. As the LED tubes do not contain mercury, unlike fluorescent models, this simplifies end-of-life disposal.

“Launching Opti-Catch Retrofit 5W LED underlines Pelsis’ commitment to delivering market-leading pest management solutions that combine performance, simplicity, and innovation while ensuring sustainable practices.”

Pelsis Group develops leading brands for commercial and retail customers, delivering innovative pest control and garden care products to a global customer base. The company employs more than 700 people across 15 sites in the UK, Europe, USA and India.

Jasmin Emmerson, sales director for Opti-Catch at Fotolec Technologies, said:

“Following two years of research and development activity, we are pleased to launch the Opti-Catch Retrofit 5w LED exclusively with Pelsis.”

“During development, we prioritised features which ensure function, safety and protection, making Opti-Catch the best retrofit LED solution for insect light traps with no compromise on efficacy.”
