Too Good To Go Launches Parcels: Revolutionising Surplus Food Management at the Manufacturing Stage

Company News

Too Good To Go, the social impact company behind the world’s largest marketplace app for surplus food, is proud to announce the launch of its new service – Too Good To Go Parcels – designed for FMCG brands and manufacturers looking to reduce their food waste.

By purchasing surplus items directly from brands, Too Good To Go Parcels offers a reliable and sustainable retail channel that reduces the logistical burden of handling surplus food.

Brands simply ship their products to Too Good To Go’s new packing facility in the Midlands, and the rest is managed by Too Good To Go’s logistics partner, CEVA Logistics. Consumers can then purchase Parcels directly via the Too Good To Go app for a reduced price and have these conveniently delivered straight to their door.

With approximately 12 million tonnes of food wasted annually at the manufacturing stage across Europe, Too Good To Go Parcels provides a simple and effective channel for food brands to manage surplus food due to fluctuations in demand, packaging changes, or cosmetic standards. Minimising on food waste but also maximising on recouped profits.

The new retail channel also gives brands the opportunity to engage directly with an engaged community of over 17 million registered UK users who are all committed to reducing food waste via Too Good To Go’s existing marketplace app. A win-win-win solution for businesses, consumers and the environment.

Some favourite brands already onboard in the UK include Tony’s Chocolonely, Kraft Heinz, Minor Figures and Skinny Food Co – with leading food companies such as Unilever, Danone, Coca-Cola, Ferrero and Mondelēz currently onboard in other markets.

In addition to the UK rollout, Parcels has already been launched in other countries across Europe, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and Austria. By the end of 2024, Parcels will be available in 50 percent of the countries where Too Good To Go operates, furthering the company’s mission of a planet with no food waste.

Internationally, over 1.4 million Parcels have already been saved, equivalent to avoiding 21.9 million kgs of CO2e emissions and saving 6.5 billion litres of water.

Sophie Trueman, Country Director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to introduce Parcels as the latest innovation in our mission to combat food waste. This new retail channel not only provides businesses with an additional way to manage their surplus inventory without any logistical burden, but it allows them to market their brand directly to our existing and hyper-engaged audience. We believe that by making it easier for everyone to participate in tackling food waste, we can make a significant impact together.”

Jacqui Grimsey-Jones, UK and Ireland Head of Marketing at Tony’s Chocolonely, noted: “Tony’s Chocolonely is fully aligned with Too Good To Go’s belief that the products we all enjoy should not cause the exploitation of people or planet. With our fully traceable supply chain, we’re already making an impact at the very start of the journey, and now, partnering with Too Good to Go allows us to extend this commitment, ensuring we’re doing better at every stage of our products’ life cycle.”

Olivia Sinclair, Head of Marketing at Minor Figures EMEA added: “We’re so happy to support initiatives like these and help tasty products get into the hands of food lovers and waste fighters! It’s also a fantastic option to help customers get their hands on stock in an alternative and sustainable way, and to know that no product goes to waste. Customers can sip their Minor Figures oat lattes knowing you’ve done some great work for the planet!”

Products found in Too Good To Go Parcels are typically ambient goods and easy to store. This includes coffee, tea, soft drinks, snacks, soups, sauces, spices, sweets, crisps, pasta and more. There are a range of Parcel types to suit a business’s needs which are all carefully curated by Too Good To Go’s team of in-house experts using existing consumer insights. Parcels can be ordered by consumers via the Too Good To Go App, and are typically delivered within 1-5 days.

Today’s announcement builds on the success of Too Good To Go’s long-standing partnerships and mission to reduce the amount of food going to waste via its much-loved Surprise Bags model. Users of the app are able to fight food waste by saving Surprise Bags of surplus food from their favourite shops and restaurants at a reduced price. Each bag contains quality food nearing its sell-by date, available at a reduced price. Too Good To Go recently hit the milestone of 45 million meals saved via Surprise Bags saved in the UK alone.

Food waste accounts for 10% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Fighting food waste is essential to solving the climate crisis, as it is named the number one solution to limit the temperature rise to just 2˚C by 2100 (Project Drawdown). Through its new Parcels function, Too Good To Go and its partners will contribute even further to collective efforts to reduce food waste and its environmental impact, while continuing to offer customers great value.
