QA, the UK’s largest tech training provider, and Costa Coffee, the UK’s favourite coffee brand, proudly celebrated the success of their Data Apprenticeship Programme, with their first cohort of data apprentices graduating during National Apprenticeship Week (NAW).
This milestone marks a significant achievement in Costa Coffee’s commitment to fostering digital skills within its workforce. The programme, developed in partnership with QA, has enabled apprentices from diverse backgrounds within Costa Coffee’s workforce to enhance their data capabilities, supporting career progression and embedding crucial data-driven decision-making within the business.
The Data Apprenticeship Programme was launched to upskill Costa Coffee employees, equipping them with the technical expertise needed to thrive in an increasingly data-driven industry. With apprentices spanning multiple business functions – including HR, marketing and dedicated data teams – the initiative has played a key role in strengthening Costa Coffee’s internal data capabilities.
Three of the five graduating apprentices are women, reinforcing Costa Coffee’s commitment to diversity in STEM roles. Success stories include individuals who have transitioned from customer-facing roles into data-specialist positions, demonstrating the programme’s role in unlocking career mobility and long-term development within the organisation.
QA has played a pivotal role in the design and delivery of the programme, providing expert guidance and ensuring apprentices receive hands-on, practical training that aligns with Costa Coffee’s business needs. The partnership extends beyond education, with QA actively supporting Costa Coffee’s initiatives, including live panel discussions and events aimed at promoting apprenticeship opportunities.
The graduation event, held during National Apprenticeship Week, highlights Costa Coffee’s commitment to apprenticeships as a key driver of talent development. As an official supporter of NAW for the second consecutive year, Costa Coffee is using this platform to challenge traditional perceptions of apprenticeships and showcase how learning opportunities extend beyond early-career professionals, benefiting employees at all levels.
Ruth South, Global Talent Development & Learning Senior Manager at Costa Coffee, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our apprentices and the impact they have made within our business.
“Data is at the core of our growth, and we’re excited to celebrate it. This programme is about more than just upskilling – it’s about creating career pathways, fostering confidence and developing the future leaders of our organisation.
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating their achievements during National Apprenticeship Week. This year’s theme ‘Skills for Life’ resonates deeply with our mission to invest in our team members’ growth.”
Jo Bishenden, Managing Director of Apprenticeships at QA, said:
“Costa Coffee’s success with apprenticeships is a testament to what can be achieved through strong partnerships and investment in people.
“We are delighted to support Costa Coffee in equipping its workforce with the critical data skills needed for the future.”
Following the success of this cohort, Costa Coffee has reaffirmed its commitment to growing its apprenticeship offering. With over 30 diverse apprenticeship programmes available, the company continues to invest in high-quality learning experiences that support career development and business growth.
