Nordic seafood group achieves ERP cloud lift in 15 weeks and 10 percent reduction in operating costs
Infor®, the industry cloud company, today announced that Insula, a Nordic seafood group with a main focus on the development, processing and sale of fish and seafood products, has implemented Infor CloudSuite Food & Beverage. The multi-tenant cloud solution powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) has reduced operating costs by 10 percent.
Since 2018, Insula has had an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution from Infor, M3 Food & Beverage, which has pre-configured settings dedicated to the food industry.
“For Insula, it has always been a principle to stick to the standard in the solution and not resort to customisation”, says Insula’s ERP manager Ronny Johnsen.
Johnsen emphasizes that if the entire ERP system was customised, Insula would have had greater challenges in migrating to a standard cloud solution.
“An agreement with Infor partner Elvenite was signed in May 2021 and the cloud solution was put into use on Monday 18th October of the same year. Operating costs have been reduced by 10 percent compared to the on-premise solution and the entire cloud lift was carried out remotely due to Covid, so this has literally been a digital project”, says Line Fjeldstad, CIO at Insula.
“Together with Elvenite, who are specialists in Infor’s cloud solution for the food industry, we have had a very good team with a clear plan of where we are going and who have undoubtedly contributed to us being able to deliver a successful cloud lift on time and budget”, says Fjeldstad.
“We now have lower ongoing operating costs despite an almost 50 per cent increase in the number of users. In addition, the upgrade costs are virtually eliminated compared to the on-premises version. Furthermore, stability and security are better in the cloud solution, and in total this has been important for the decision to move the ERP solution to the cloud”, says Fjeldstad.
Insula had a clear strategy to do the migration to the cloud in a “one to one” lift in order not to make the work more extensive than necessary and to stay on schedule.
“This means that we chose not to make changes to our business processes, the main goal of the promise was a stable operation, increased security, reduced costs and ongoing access to new functionality”, says Fjeldstad.
“We spent a lot of time drawing up a clear and thorough contract to avoid ambiguities and conflicts that could delay progress. In addition, it was crucial to put in place a team with sufficient and correct competence and professional resources that complement each other from both Elvenite and Insula”, says Erik Kalström, ERP manager at Elvenite AB
The ERP system ensures information from the entire value chain, from the producer, processing and up to the store. This helps to reduce waste, improves production planning and documentation throughout the traceability chain.
“We have put in place a flexible ERP platform that will help us collect and adapt management information so that we can adapt faster and better to changes in market needs”, says Fjeldstad.
